Shadow Flicker Assessment

Lomond Energy was commissioned by a private wind developer to provide a shadow flicker assessment in support of a planning application for a single 500kW wind turbine in West Lothian.

Using ReSoft Windfarm Lomond Energy provided the client with a shadow flicker assessment in a short report format with figures detailing the quantity and areas where shadow flicker was predicted to occur. The report also identified specific local buildings that were predicted to potentially receive shadow flicker effects as a result of the proposed wind turbine.

This allowed the client to transparently report the likely effects of the proposed wind development to the local authority within their planning application. The shadow flicker assessment alllowed the client to propose appropriate mitigation in the case that flicker causes significant issues during operation of the site. The proposed development successfully gained planning permission in 2014.
